Workshop description
“Drawing is not only about technical skills and techniques. It is not about whether the results are good or bad. It is about the process of looking, organising, thinking, wondering, questioning, imagining and communicating and enjoying yourself! Treasure hunts can help participants find and draw hidden aspects of your site. A sketching trail can focus attention on particular features or qualities.”The participants in this “sketching hunt” workshop are invited to draw "unseen" aspects of a particular site, indoors or outdoors, by doing a collection, series or sequence of drawings exploring particular themes that are introduced by a sketching ideas list.—Drawing Strategies, The Big Draw
The list ideas will be given to participants before the site exploration in different pieces of papers, one for each sketching idea, and the participants are adviced to opening them one by one. Each sketching idea comes in the form of key words.
For example: Above the eye level (drawing from a vantage point, or laying on the ground looking up, can provide an unusual perspective, and a way to discover the surprising and unusual in the ordinary environment), Skyline, Reflection, Detail, Shadow ...
Each participant will be encouraged, during the site exploration, about the importance of looking, thinking, questioning and understanding. The main goal of the workshop is not about techniques, but about different ways of seeing.
The participants are also encouraged to make use of different materials that suit their site exploration options.
