As I told in my last post, I will go back to the Flemish village of Doel, which is threatened by the expansion of the port of Antwerp, to make a new book. Although the weather is cold and stormy, I will take the bus and train in a few minutes, to meet people and to make new sketches.
Last week I was organizing thousands of files in my computer, to make place for the new scans which I will collect the coming months and years. Inevitable I made some nice discoveries.
1/ When finishing my first book about Doel (see www.facebook.com/DorpstekenaarDoel) I didn't even use half of the sketches I made there, to make this 320 pages fat book. And what's more, I found some some nice ones I'd like to share another time.2/ When visiting and sketching the same spot year after year, you discover things that change (and things change rapidy in Doel) and other things which change hardly.
Three times I went there in July, to sketch the commemoration of the liberation by the British army in 1944. Three times I made almost the same sketch. Only the little cracks in the nuclear reactor on the background are multiplying alarmingly (but that is not visible on my sketches).
